We first met at university in 2012, studying Music and Sound Recording (or “Tonmeister” if you want the fancy name). Fate had us frequently performing in the same late-night recording sessions. Somewhere between the takes we discovered a shared love of music, peanut M&Ms and cuba libres. The chemistry was pretty obvious (perhaps partly fuelled by the rum).
Our romance blossomed during our placement year when Alex was working for Dolby in London, and Dan for Focusrite in High Wycombe. It started with a 'how-many-chins-can-you make' competition on Snapchat - as all great love stories do. Alex remains the undefeated champion.
Our first official date was at Burger & Lobster in Soho. We thought it was a swanky fine dining spot and showed up embarrassingly overdressed, only to be plonked at the bar with plastic bibs while the bartender taught us how to wrestle a lobster.
By final year, Dan had moved in with Alex’s family (we remain amazed that Alex's parents allowed that!) and after graduating we got our own flat in Woking — complete with an oversized living room perfect for hosting game nights and fancy dress parties. In 2022 we bought our first house in Aldershot and brought home Wally, our crazy black Labrador with a talent for making housework impossible but life much better.
Since then, we’ve racked up plenty of adventures: Thailand, Mexico and New York were amongst our favourites, but we also treasure our 'Walliday' trips around the UK with Wally.
After ten years together, Dan proposed during a walk on West Wittering beach. He knelt down, making it look like he was about to get Wally a ball - only to pull out a ring instead. Alex was thrilled, Wally was not (don't worry, he got a ball afterwards).
And now, after years of laughs, questionable costumes, and a lot of love, here we are — ready for the next adventure: getting married!
